Think about it

What percentage of your business comes from repeat customers?  In your industry, who is considered the quality company?  How do you know what your customers think of your product or service?   When is the last time you made changes to improve your product or service?

Albany, New York: Infrastructure.  Chemistry.  Bonding.  All keys for business success, but in this particular show, we discuss them literally. You can find E-poxy working within the foundations of Statue of Liberty and absorbing the stresses within bridges around the world.

You will meet  the founder -- a man who was a WWII refugee. His name is Don Dzekciorius. For years his mother kept him and his three siblings moving just beyond the battlefields. They managed to come to America from Lithuania on a boat that passed under the watch of the Statue of Liberty. Don has since built a good business from nothing. He employs people. He became the president of a regional manufacturers' president organization where they proudly say, "We made it in America." He gives generously to his community. But best yet, he exports his special chemistry all over the world.

Don's company, E-Poxy Engineered Materials, makes the product that holds things together.  His secret recipe is used to create water-tight expansion joints that hold up the Statute of Liberty and plenty of bridges including the Golden Gate Bridge.   

He started in his own business in 1976. In that time he has created hundreds of jobs, and he has generated millions in sales. And, in so many ways, he has made the world a better place.

HATTIE: (Voiceover) Mary Beth Taylor and Don's brother, Al, maintain relationships with customers closer to home.

MARY BETH TAYLOR: It's a niche market, we're competing at a superior level. And being able to supply a customer with a material that's going to perform, you know, 10 years, 10 years plus, the demand is there. We're able to produce. We're able to put it out in the marketplace.

And we get the calls back that say, `Hey, I know that you guys have Evazote 380 ESP with HALS. Where do I get it? How do I get it? Is there somebody in my marketplace that I can get it from?' So...

HATTIE: So it's fabulous.

MARY BETH: It's fantastic, and you feel great about it. And we just keep building upon it and just keep throwing at them, `Evazote 380 EPS with HALS, and don't forget it.' So...

HATTIE: Don't forget it...

AL DZEKCIORIUS: These are the things that I deal with. These are the competitive products, and this is what happens to brand X.

HATTIE: They fall apart.

AL: They fall apart. And this is ours, and you can see that you can't puncture this. We have this in areas over 20 years old, and it's still working.
