30°N 90° W is a fact.
The definition of all longitudes and latitudes for this earth has been defined and refined since 1884 (International Meridian Conference). It is very stable information. Since the 1960s science and technology – the Global Navigation Satellite System – can measure any global position within an inch. Any change to the basic concepts is unlikely. There has been very little done to value GPS locations for their simplicity and meaning. GPS technology will increasingly be integrated into everything and be used by everybody. Today it is mostly used by cars, trucks and airplanes (for which it was developed). Operational for the public since 1993, ideas for practical GPS applications are still young. Currently no major city in the world promotes their GPS location. 30/90: The New Orleans GPS location is simple and very easy to remember. It marks a divisional longitudinal quarter with the Prime Meridian and International Date Line (six hours east and west) and the one-third latitudinal axis with the equator and North Pole.
