About the TV Show

Our goal has always been...

Bring our viewers the truth about what it takes to start, run and grow a business and this only comes from people who have been doing it for years.

As the longest-running television series in the world dedicated exclusively to telling the stories of successful small businesses, our weekly show on PBS stations -- with  sponsorship from some of the world's biggest companies including IBM, Verizon and Microsoft -- takes you inside hundreds of small companies so you can learn from owners who are the best in their category.

Television is a great medium, but we realized from our work creating over 40 college textbook video companions (which are used in thousands of classrooms today) for the world's largest textbook publishers, that learning might be faster and more fun if you had access to bite-size videos right on your PC. Now you can search our library's more than 2,000 clips, pulled directly from the full TV episode, to find ideas, insight and inspiration.

"What can I learn from this library?"

This is an opportunity to gain key insight from truly an elite group of people who achieved against great odds. Nobody expected them to win, yet even in the face of failure, they were tenacious. Today, each person you'll meet in these clips has been called successful by their employees, customers and vendors. Each has created jobs for more than 10 years and they are all admired by their peers and loved in their communities.

We invite you to watch, listen and learn as they share their insights.  In their own special words, they all have said,
"If I can do it, you can, too."

Nobody can pay or has ever paid to be on this television show.

The sponsors have paid for everything.  And, these big businesses are among the best businesses in the world because they are all small business advocates.  They know small business is the engine of the world's economy and the largest source of social capital in local communities

Small business is where the first dollar is made. It is where dollars are exchanged for a product or service and that truly takes a village and their small businesses.

These sponsors include:

  • IBM (the founding sponsor and sponsors for over 40 seasons)
  • The United States Postal Service (sponsors for over 40 seasons)
  • Verizon (sponsors for over 30 seasons)
  • Microsoft (sponsors for over eight seasons)
  • and so many others who sponsored at least four seasons such as AT&T, BusinessWeek, and Travelers.

Longest-running TV series on PBS stations about best business practices

Every week since September 1994 on location asking questions...  every question is answered by a business owner who was recommended by many local business advocates and confirmed by their national trade association for their leadership, generosity, ethics, and courage.
