Late in the year 2000, President Vladimir Putin replaced The Patriotic Song (which had been the official anthem from 1990) with the State Anthem of the Russian Federation, a revision of the anthem of 1943 and 1977, music by Alexander Alexandrov and lyrics by Sergey Mikhalkov.
