Key Idea: Join an organization that will help you litigate
and educate.
Daniel Walker is a
member of a royalty collection agency. It does the work of tracking down where
his music is being played, collects and remits the money owned to Daniel. We
see the day when other professional and industry trade associations take on the
task of protecting their members' intellectual property.
Topic for
discussion: Who hired George Borkowski to go after Napster?
Answer: The
RIAA, which is the Record Industry Association of America. It is made up of
thousands of composers and musicians like Daniel Walker. We don't know of other
trade associations who handle litigation for its members but as member of the
U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Advisory Council, we know it works
actively to influence laws that impact small business.
