HATTIE: (VO) Bruce
Camber, our Executive Producer, and I have served on the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce Small Business Advisory Council for over a decade. While most meetings
are held in Washington D.C., the most recent meeting took place in Boca Raton
Florida.
HATTIE: So tell me
why are you in Boca Raton today?
TOBY: I'm in Boca
Raton today to advance the issues of small, medium-sized enterprises through
the United States Chamber of Commerce efforts.
JOHN BACHMAN: ...to encourage
more people to be in business.
HATTIE: (VO) John
Bachman has served as the volunteer chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
and is a senior partner of Edward Jones.
JOHN BACHMAN: I'm
here because I believe in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. It is the voice of
business and whether you're a large business or a small business there are
issues that bring us together and in order to make certain our voice is heard,
we have to speak out on our own. And yet we can't do it unless we join with
others. So being a part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce enables my voice to be
heard in the way it otherwise couldn't be.
HATTIE: (VO) John
works closely with Tom Donahue, the U.S. Chamber's president and CEO. Tom is
all for working hard and for making sure volunteers have fun and enjoy some
delicious food.
HATTIE: (VO) Small
business owners are involved in Chamber activity at the national, regional,
state and local level.
ALBERT BLACK: I think we have to do those things
in order to be effective leader.
HATTIE: (VO) For
business owners like Albert Black in Dallas TX, volunteering started the day he
opened for business. Albert has served in many capacities at the Dallas Chamber
of Commerce, including the President of the Chamber Board. Here's Albert in
action.
ALBERT: Mr.
Chairman, Small Business Resource Council is running and functioning properly.
