We know this is not politically correct, but we want women to turn their sweat equity into cash -- not just good feelings.

Topic for Discussion: How does a man do business?

Answer: Most men start a business with the goal to make money while there are many women who don't even think about money. Women tend to want to think about what interests them personally and all of the good they are going to do. Making money would be a plus. We suggest that women turn that around and set a goal to make money and think of doing good as a plus.

In his book, 50 Companies That Changed the World, Howard Rothman provides a snapshot of the companies he believes have made indelible marks on civilization. I read the book to find out if any women founded any of the companies that made his list. There are zero women. The founder of Avon quickly recruited a woman who helped him grow the company and there was one woman in a group of four founders who started a community development bank. There is not one single female founder on the list of companies that have changed the world.

That list includes technology and construction which are fields dominated by men. However, it also includes human resources, clothing and toys. Why haven't women started companies that have changed the world? We suggest there is a lack of confidence, a lack of passion and a tendency for women to think that bigger is not necessarily better.

You think about it: What women do you know who are running companies that could be bigger? What women could hire more people and create more jobs? If you are a woman, why isn't your business bigger?
