Retail: The challenge is the quiet months. In this episode you meet a master retailer and a quiet hero in her community. She was an early leader in her Main Street revitalization movement. She is Orange Schroeder of Orange Tree Imports. She's written a great little book called Specialty Shop Retailing. If you get it and read it, you'll find Orange more than glad to talk with you because you just may stimulate her thinking of the future in a new way.

Learn from people with large hearts and minds. Read the overview, transcript, and case study guide, and watch the video anytime but please be sure to tune-in to the local broadcast of the show.

It is not enough to love the products you sell. You must also have a profound love for people to build a successful specialty retail shop.

Topic for Discussion: Why did Carol give this advice?
Small Business School
Possible Answer: Working with both customers and employees is the primary task of a shopkeeper. If you prefer to select products and spend time with the book- keeping, you should work for a large store where you can easily avoid people. A specialty shop succeeds because of the way people are treated.
Small Business School
Carol says she feels as if she is inviting customers into her home. This warm, close contact keeps customers coming back and keeps her employees satisfied. Love people. Treat them right. Simple?!?
Small Business School
You think about it: How do you show your good feelings for your customers and your employees?

Our goals and assurance
Small Business School
Every pixel of each page is being analyzed to understand its meaning, how it contributes to learning, and in what ways it is connected to something else. Every thing and everybody within life is somehow interconnected. The web is just a metaphor for it and this website will constantly strive to reflect the vibrancy and realities of life. Even our four-box logo represents a very real effort to understand the nature of the interior conditions that define us. It has a little to do with that space-time continuum thing.
