| El Paso, Texas: The
1993 Small Business Person of the Year from the State of Texas, Heliodoro
Valadez started Best Buy Tortilla Factory after he lost his job; he could not
find another and he had nine children to support. His goal was to make 200
dozen tortillas a day simply to replace the income he'd lost. He did better
than that. He made such a good tortilla, sales grew to over $5 million with 12%
margins. His son says, `Pop, if you were a Harvard MBA, this would be no big
deal. But since you're a guy who started with no money and absolutely no
education, Best Buy is a bit of a miracle.' |

| Life goals for today |
 |
 |
 |
| 1. |
What are your life goals? List those things
that could drive you to say, `If I
don't do this, my life won't be complete.' |
| 2. |
You can't take it with you. Really. It's a
fact. We all need an Exit Strategy. |
| 3. |
Re-read an old book. Bundle up and sit out
in the sun, and enjoy that moment with an old thoughtful friend. If the author
is still alive, send a note! I'm sitting down with Novak's
Business As Calling. |
| 4. |
Support education. From the schools that
touched you to the associations that keep you current and professional, and
even to that local PBS station. Write a bunch of "little" end-of-year checks.
You'll feel better for it and it'll help release your
power of knowing. |
| 5. |
Get some help. Give some help.
We are never too old to ask for advice and surely you know someone younger
who would enjoy your time to reflect about the meaning and value of life. We
all deeply benefit when we
get some help and give some help. |

Hattie speaks to groups all over the country.
The Lightbulb is that point in each episode where we stop, and
she often asks, "Did you hear that?" That is one of the Key Points of the
episode, and when applied, can change a business. This show is all about making
your business successful and making our world a better place. |
