There are 25M small businesses in the USA; that is
a small business for every 10-14 people. For every 100,000 people, there are
any where from 7000 to 10,000 small businesses in that area and two-thirds of
them will be sole proprietors.
Most sole proprietors are stuck at doing less than
$1M in annual revenue. All do not want the burden of paperwork and management
of employees. Some are not sure of the weekly financial burden. Yet most sole
proprietors need help; they could and should hire a person; even a temp or
part-time person is a step in the right direction. They have to learn more
about the many new options (and plenty of groups) to handle the management and
do all that paper work.
If we can make your sole proprietors more
efficient and more productive -- get them into a growth modality -- we will
have done them and your local economy a favor. Most sole proprietors do not
think they have a transferable asset. With a single employee that begins to
change.
Because of these rich web resources and the
generosity of our corporate sponsors, there are the five things we could
readily do to work with each local Workforce Initiative / Economic Development
Commission and to make a positive impact in each local community:
1. Identify. Be the local telephone number
and address, the people to whom a sole proprietor can say, "I am ready to
hire." We'll direct them to you.
2. Workforce-Economic Development (WED): Do
a quick needs assessment (online
interview*) to match the sole proprietor with right local small business
advocacy groups. We'll provide the online interview and online
collaboration area.
3. Benefits for Sole Proprietors: 3a.
Free Online Learning course. The materials are all focused on job creation.
Yet, the courses are interactive and there
is an option to list and link one's business. This is part of the mission of
SmallBusinessSchool.org.
