My Library and Courses

You can follow-up one of the shows in three ways:

 1.

Go to school. Virtually every business school in the USA uses case studies from Small Business School television legacy. Go to a list of over 40 of the most popular business textbooks where these case studies can be found.

Back when the show first came on the air, many schools and universities had a special relation with the PBS Adult Learning Service.  At that time the show was called here was Small Business Today.   PBS transmitted that programming to more than 3000 colleges and universities throughout the USA. All of the schools were invited "to take the feed," and over 1000 did.

Our goal was to get all of the schools even more involved. Perhaps the students and professors could help by recommending great businesses in their communities. Perhaps some could help business owners answer the same questions Hattie asked each of the businesses in each of the episodes of the show.  These owners would be creating their own transcripts and study guides.

So, with this partial listing of that schools that used the case study materials in the classroom, this page emerged.

Another hope and dream was that some of the business owners who watched the show would find a school nearby and take a continuing education class.

A note to professors: While in school, we all learned the stories of the early pioneers who risked everything to break new ground. Small Business Today  (and her successors) is all about the new American heroes who are the new risk takers, innovators, and job creators. No matter what their vocational direction, students have been inspired and will learn.

2.

Become a member of the community, but start a local study group. Educators get discounts. Although the website was designed for business owners, anyone can join and hundreds of  schools, business associations, Chambers of Commerce, and Small Business Development Centers have.

E-mail. Specify "Questions."

Review the business books.

3.

Make a few telephone calls. Many of our viewers are interested in continuing education. If you find that your local junior college, college, or university is not listed below, call the school, talk with a professor in the business department, and request a special course based on our case studies.

Then, you could help your school by getting other organizations involved to help you organize that study group. Include your local Chamber of Commerce (i.e. Calhoun County's Chamber under Alabama), your local station (i.e., Contra Costa, California), a SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) chapter, and/or the closest US Small Business Administration (US SBA) – Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Program (i.e., see West Virginia). Ask your local station to put a tag at the end of each Small Business School show to promote your study group. There is never any harm in asking and they just might help you!

To facilitate these discussions with the following schools, we will provide the e-mail hyperlinks whenever we can so you can get more specific information from the school and your public television station.

This is a partial listing of schools that have one of the series from the television show. If you are a school, chamber or SBDC and you have any set of the one of the series and are not listed, please e-mail us to be included.
